Barclays helps drag FTSE 100 up half a per cent on Monday

The FTSE 100 was up almost half a per cent (0.49 per cent) or 25.02 points at close of trading on Monday at 5,167.47 as Wall Street and most Asian markets closed for public holidays.

Driving the gains was Barclays PLC, up 4.98 per cent, with British Airways (2.61 per cent) and Legal and General Group (2.44 per cent) also on the rise.

Carnival and Rio Tinto meanwhile were both up 2.15 per cent.

Leading the losses was BT Group, which slipped 2.53 per cent, followed by Kingfisher on minus 1.86 per cent.

Royal Dutch Shell (-1.31 per cent) and ARM Holdings (-1.27 per cent) were also among the biggest falls.ADNFCR-1783-ID-19616765-ADNFCR
