Barclays leads FTSE 100 gains following massive profit boost

The FTSE 100 rose by almost one per cent in early trading on Tuesday, led by Barclays following its announcement of a massive rise in annual profits in 2009.At 09:32 GMT the London index stood at 5,216.63 a rise of 49.16 points, or 0.95 per cent.
Earlier this morning Barclays revealed profits last year rose by 92 per cent to £11.6 billion and in the first hour of trading the bank's shares leapt 6.89 per cent to 294p.
The banking sector as a whole led the gains in early trading, with Royal Bank of Scotland Group rising 4.75 per cent to 33.1p and Lloyds Banking Group up 4.51 per cent to 48.91p.
InterContinental Hotels Group suffered the biggest loss in the morning, falling 1.52 per cent, with Aggreko also down 1.21 per cent.
