British Airways helps FTSE 100 begin week in positive fashion

British Airways helped the FTSE 100 begin the week in positive fashion this morning with the London index rising over 40 points in early trading.

At 09:33 GMT the leading shares index stood at 5,184.86 – a rise of 0.82 per cent.

BA led the gains, up 4.4 per cent to 204.1p, with the mining sector also registering positive growth.

Rio Tinto began Monday up 2.64 per cent and Xstrata rose 2.29 per cent.

Of the few companies which registered a loss in the first hour of trading, Royal Dutch Shell suffered the worst – falling 1.31 per cent.

Kingfisher also dropped 0.95 per cent, with Next down 0.37 per cent.ADNFCR-1783-ID-19614850-ADNFCR
