Cadbury helps FTSE 100 rise in early trading

Wednesday 18th November 2009

Speculation of a new biding war for Cadbury has helped the FTSE 100 rise slightly in early trading on Wednesday morning.

At 10:15 GMT the London index stood at 5,359.33 – a rise of 13.40 points, 0.25 per cent.

The news that the US firm Hershey could be in talks with Italian company Ferrero over a possible rival bid for Cadbury saw shares in the confectioner rise by over one per cent to 796p.

Strong metals and oil prices also helped the index rise, with BP up 0.8 per cent to 592.20p and Royal Dutch Shell also showing positive gains.

Some of the biggest drops were recorded by Capita Group – down over four per cent and Lloyds Banking Group down over one per cent.ADNFCR-1783-ID-19465651-ADNFCR
