Cameron accuses Brown of 'debt bombshells'

The Conservative Party leader used his new year message to ridicule Mr Brown's handling of the economic crisis and accuse Labour of moral lapses in its policies on tax and personal debt.
Mr Cameron said that "tax and debt bombshells" dropped by the prime minister in 2008 have taken the country "to the brink of bankruptcy", while claiming that the government had lost its "moral compass".
He asked: "Where is the morality in asking our children to pay off our debts?
"Where is the morality in encouraging people who have already borrowed too much to borrow a little more?"
Mr Cameron said that his party plans to rebuild the British economy "brick by brick" if it manages to win power at the next general election.
The Labour government has also faced criticism from five bishops of the Church of England, who recently questioned the morality of its financial policy.
