Debt-hit Britons are 'losing control of finances'

Debt-hit Britons are 'losing control of finances'Friday 13th June 2008

More and more Britons feel that their finances have spiralled out of control, in the latest sign of spiralling UK debt levels.

In a poll conducted by GE Money, just over one in four (27 per cent) of those surveyed said they sometimes or always feel that they feel they have lost control of their financial situation.

Meanwhile, a further eight per cent said that they regularly spend more than they earn.

A GE Money spokesperson, commenting on the research findings said: "As we approach summer we are urging people to take an active interest in sorting out their finances.

"With the cost of living increasing this is no time to relax; it is important that people take stock and ensure they know exactly what they owe and when."

The poll also found that the need to pay off credit card debt meant that almost 40 per cent of people have no money left at the end of each pay cycle.
