The FTSE 100 began the week up slightly after reaching a 16-month high.On the back on strong export figures from China the London index reached levels not seen since early September 2008 in morning trading.
At the close of play the leading index ended on 5,538.07, a rise of 3.83 points, or 0.07 per cent.
Commodity stocks helped lead the stocks as the FTSE rose for the 17th Monday in a row.
Leading the gains was Land Securities Group, up 2.86 per cent to 683p, with TUI Travel and British Land Co, up 2.69 per cent and 2.6 per cent respectively.
Eurasian Natural Resources Corp suffered the biggest drop on Monday, down 2.32 per cent.
Also struggling at the start of the week were Standard Chartered, falling 2.09 per cent, and Legal and General Group, slipping 2.08 per cent to 82.55p.
