FTSE 100 closes slightly up on Wednesday

The FTSE 100 maintained early gains to close slightly up after a healthy day of trading.By close of play the leading share index was up 34.49 per cent, or 0.65 per cent, at 5,320.26.
Leading the gains was Resolution Limited, up 4.96 per cent, with Rentokil Initial and Liberty International behind on 4.79 per cent and 4.35 per cent.
RSA Insurance Group (3.46 per cent) and Kazakhmys (2.95 per cent) were also on the up.
On the flipside, United Utilities Group led the losses with minus 2.24 per cent, while Smith and Nephew (1.27 per cent), Burberry Group (1.11 per cent) and London Stock Exchange Group (1.06 per cent) also falling.
