FTSE 100 closes up 0.4 per cent on Tuesday

The FTSE 100 has continued its good start to the year today, closing at 0.4 per cent, up 22.16 points.

Britain's leading share index had a good start to 2010, after closing up 1.62 per cent yesterday, marking a 16-month high already this week.

After a turbulent day for Cadbury, which saw Kraft step up its takeover bid by selling a frozen pizza company to Nestle to free up funds, the British confectioner finished down 3.23 per cent.

Leading the FTSE fallers was Autonomy Corporation, which shed 3.86 per cent.

There was good news for the banks today, with Royal Bank of Scotland closing up 10.28 per cent, despite its tumultuous last year, and Barclays and Lloyds up 6.26 and 3.39 per cent respectively.ADNFCR-1783-ID-19541230-ADNFCR
