FTSE 100 continues steady progress

The FTSE 100 continued the steady gains made all week with another strong performance on Wednesday.

At the close of play the London index stood at 5,372.38, a rise of 43.72 points, or 0.82 per cent.

Leading the gains was Randgold Resources which was up 3.73 per cent, 184 points, at 5,115p.

Eurasian Natural Resources Corp also witnessed strong progress, up 3.57 per cent to 899p.

Despite strong gains yesterday, Cairn Energy was the biggest loser on Wednesday, dropping 4.57 per cent to 323.5p.

BT Group also suffered a poor day's trading with shares dropping 3.31 per cent.

The London index is now within touching distance of its year high of 5,382.67, reached on November 16th.ADNFCR-1783-ID-19529005-ADNFCR
