FTSE 100 down 1.89 per cent in early trading

Thursday 26th November 2009

Britain's top share index was down 1.89 per cent in early trading, after ending Wednesday up 0.8 per cent on the back of GDP figures.

At 09:30 GMT Compass Group was up 0.23 per cent, following yesterday's profit results which saw the catering company top the blue-chip gainers list when the markets closed.

Miners added the most points to the index on Wednesday, with Randgold Resources among the biggest blue-chip gainers, up three per cent. But this morning Randgold was down 1.93 per cent.

Severn Trent started the day up 3.68 per cent, while United Utilities Group was up 2.11 per cent and Scottish and Southern Energy 0.54 per cent.

Gains in November so far look to put the index on track to record its best monthly performance since August.ADNFCR-1783-ID-19480372-ADNFCR
