FTSE 100 down in early trading on Wednesday

Wednesday 6th January 2010

After closing up last night, Britain's leading share index started Wednesday down 0.21 per cent.

At 09:30 GMT the FTSE 100 lost 11.87 points, following a good day on Tuesday which saw the highest close since Lehman Brothers collapsed.

Marks and Spencer led the falls, down 4.27 per cent, when its third quarter/Christmas results posted today failed to meet the expectations of investors.

Akin to last night's trading close, Royal Bank of Scotland led the market gains, up 2.63 per cent in early trading.

After posting good sales results yesterday, high-street retailer Next was down 0.29 per cent this morning.ADNFCR-1783-ID-19541652-ADNFCR
