FTSE 100 ends week on the ascendancy

The FTSE 100 ended the week on a positive note after closing up 17.20 points, or 0.33 per cent, on Friday.By close of trading the leading share index stood at 5,261.57 points.
Travel firms drove the slight rise, with Thomas Cook Group up 3.94 per cent and TUI Travel rising 3.39 per cent.
Elsewhere, miners Vedanta Resources (3.24 per cent) and Fresnillo (3.04 per cent) helped push the index up, as did leisure group Whitbread (3.10 per cent) and credit agency Experian (3.08 per cent).
But the FTSE suffered on the back of losses in the financial sector, led by Lloyds Banking Group at 3.44 per cent, and closely followed by London Stock Exchange Group (2.66 per cent) and Royal Bank of Scotland Group (2.49 per cent).
