FTSE 100 opens down as mining sector suffers early slump

The FTSE 100 began the week down 0.3 per cent on Monday morning, with Xstrata leading the slump.By 09:33 GMT the London index stood at 5,608.43 a drop of 17.22 points.
The mining group Xstrata opened down 2.26 per cent to 1,166p, with British Sky Broadcasting also slipping 2.09 per cent to 585.5p.
A disappointing morning also saw Kazakhmys and Lonmin fall 1.91 per cent and 1.8 per cent respectively.
Bucking the general trend on Monday morning, BT Group opened up over two per cent to 125.9 p, with Centrica also rising 1.76 per cent.
