FTSE 100 recovers strongly on Wednesday morning

Wednesday 31st March 2010

The FTSE 100 opened strongly on Wednesday morning, reversing some of the damage caused by yesterday afternoon's slump led by the banking sector.

At 09:03 BST the London index stood at 5,695.39 – a rise of 23.07 points or 0.41 per cent.

British Sky Broadcasting led the gains in the first hour of trading, rising 3.18 per cent to 600.5p despite calls from Ofcom for the broadcaster to cut the prices it charges rivals to show its sports channels.

Thomas Cook Group and Unilever also performed strongly on Wednesday morning, up 1.72 per cent and 1.57 per cent respectively.

Segro, the UK's largest owner of warehouses and business parks, suffered the biggest slump in early trading, sliding 2.4 per cent to 321p.

Lonmin and Kingfisher also fell 1.41 per cent and 1.2 per cent.ADNFCR-1783-ID-19698391-ADNFCR
