FTSE 100 rises half a per cent in early trading on Monday

The FTSE 100 began the week in positive fashion - rising half a per cent in the first hour of trading on Monday morning.

At 09:25 BST the London index stood at 5,731.28 – a rise of 28.26 points.

Leading the gains was Xstrata, which surged 2.93 per cent to 1,228p, while Kazakmys and Vodafone Group also rose 2.69 per cent and 2.66 per cent respectively.

Cable and Wireless suffered the biggest slump, sliding 4.43 per cent to 56.15p.

British Sky Broadcasting and Royal Bank of Scotland Group also fell 0.84 per cent and 0.64 per cent.ADNFCR-1783-ID-19693129-ADNFCR
