The FTSE 100 jumped in early trading today rising 0.82 per cent led by continued strength for mining stocks and the financials bouncing back.At 08:52 BST, the index stood at 4,836.12 a gain of 39.37 points.
Lonmin led the gains as metal prices saw gains. The miner was up 6.59 per cent in early trading.
Kazakhmys meanwhile was up 4.48 per cent.
Legal & General was up 3.75 per cent, Lloyds Banking rose 3.56 per cent and Aviva gained 3.51 per cent.
Unilever was down 0.74 per cent, Morrisons lost 0.66 per cent and Pearson dropped 0.54 per cent as falling stocks were thin on the ground.
In New York, the Dow was up 0.69 per cent last night as employment data showed a fall in the number of people registering to claim unemployment benefit in the US.
The S&P 500 in Chicago gained 0.85 per cent.
