FTSE 100 steady as Budget fails to excite investors

Wednesday 24th March 2010

Britain's leading shares index seemed barely unaffected by the Budget today, as the contents of Alistair's Darling's red briefcase failed to excite investors.

At close of trading on Wednesday the FTSE 100 was up 0.07 per cent, or 4.25 points, to 5,677.88.

Banking shares were higher with Lloyds Banking Group adding 1.9 per cent and Royal Bank of Scotland Group 0.98 per cent.

Leading the blue-chip gainers was Petrofac, which gained 2.2 per cent by close of trade today.

However, dragging on the FTSE was Aviva, which led the losers, shedding 4.41 per cent, while Fresnillo also lost out, down 2.14 per cent. ADNFCR-1783-ID-19687584-ADNFCR
