Friday 12th February 2010

Britain's leading share index was up 0.6 per cent, gaining 31 points, in early trading on Friday as miners Rio Tinto and Xstrata led the way.

Rio Tinto, which reported better than expected results yesterday, was up 3.2 per cent at 09:15 GMT, while Xstrata gained 2.72 per cent and Vedanta Resources added 2.1 per cent.

Oils were also higher this morning, with Royal Dutch Shell adding 2.03 per cent, and Tullow Oil up 1.42 per cent.

British Airways, which this morning was accused of "a cyberspace witch-hunt" after it suspended 15 cabin crew members, shed 1.03 per cent in early trading, while BT Group lost 1.08 per cent after yesterday's announcement it had agreed to pay off its £9 billion pension deficit with the support of trustees.

Banking shares were mixed as investors were cautious over the impending Greek debt decision, with Lloyds Banking group shedding 0.31 per cent, and Barclays losing 0.3 per cent.

Having posted good results yesterday, Rolls-Royce Group added 0.38 per cent this morning.ADNFCR-1783-ID-19612322-ADNFCR
