Heathrow traffic up 0.9 per cent

Heathrow experienced one of its busiest ever months in July, with traffic up 0.9 per cent.BAA said their July traffic figures showed "further evidence of stabilising passenger figures", with the month being the busiest July since 2006 for Heathrow, and its third busiest month on record.
BAA airports handled 14.5 million passengers for the month, down 2.4 per cent on the same month a year earlier. Heathrow handled 6.5 million passengers over the month.
However, UK domestic traffic was 4.8 per cent lower, and European charters fell by 18.6 per cent. BAA said North Atlantic traffic was eight per cent lower overall but only 2.1 per cent at Heathrow.
Across the group there was a return to growth of 1.2 per cent.
The company said results at Gatwick and Stansted also improved, with the former witnessing a cut from 7.6 per cent in June to 4.8 per cent in July, and Stansted seeing an 11.5 per cent drop in June but a 5.7 per cent one in July.
Edinburgh's traffic grew 5.6 per cent, the fourth consecutive month of growth. At Glasgow however, traffic was down by 12.9 per cent.
Overall the number of air transport movements at BAA's UK airports was down by 5.1 per cent.
