ICAP slump causes FTSE 100 to start Monday in disappointing fashion

The FTSE 100 began the week in disappointing fashion, opening down over half a per cent on Monday morning.At 09:22 GMT the London index stood at 5,613.88 a drop of 36.24 points of 0.64 per cent.
Leading the slump was the interdealer broker ICAP which fell 2.68 per cent to 381p after announcing it is to scale back its cash equities business in China and Asia.
Miners Eurasian Natural Resources Corp and Kazakhmys also fell significantly, down 2.59 per cent and 2.43 per cent.
Smiths Group led the gains, rising 2.09 per cent to 1,123p, as the technology engineer continues to expand its US operations.
Aggreko and Prudential also rose 2.08 per cent and 0.84 per cent respectively.
