Katona loses bankruptcy battle
Katona loses bankruptcy battle
Tuesday 26th August 2008
The 27-year-old winner of I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here had been given two weeks to pay £82,000 of a £417,000 tax bill at a previous hearing.
However, her failure to find the money in this timeframe has now resulted in the registrar declaring her bankrupt at the High Court.
The registrar had rejected further entreaties for more time to pay the bill from Ms Katona's lawyer who had claimed that the money had not been paid because his client was waiting for cheques to clear.
News of Ms Katona's high profile financial plight comes as more and more consumers are expected to turn to debt management solutions this year in the face of soaring living costs and higher repayments on loans and credit card debt.
Official figures released earlier this month showed that 9,256 Britons took out an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) during the second quarter of this year.
