Lindsey oil refinery dispute 'ends'

Friday 26th June 2009

A deal has apparently been reached ending the long-running dispute at the Lindsey oil refinery.

Unions on Friday morning claimed the agreement to reinstate the 647 members of staff would be put to the workers on Monday.

Oil giant Total originally sacked the hundreds of workers for taking part in unofficial strike action. The contractors walked out in protest of the axing of 51 jobs, claiming an agreement had been reached not to make any redundancies.

Total, however, disagreed and decided to sack those taking part in the action after they refused to return to work, sparking weeks of further walkouts.

The decision also led to hundreds of oil workers around the country also taking part in strike action in support for the Lindsey staff.

The Unite union said Total had now been agreed to reinstate the sacked workers but the final details would be put to the workers first.ADNFCR-1783-ID-19237651-ADNFCR
