Trading on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) is being halted by a computer failure.Trading on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) this morning was halted by a computer failure.
Connectivity issues were blamed for the outage on a busy day for traders responding to the US government's move to bail out mortgage backers Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.
At the time trading was suspended, the FTSE 100 was up 3.81 per cent.
An LSE spokesperson said: "We had connectivity issues but it is not a problem with the platform itself."
She added the bourse was attempting to re-establish connections with clients.
The problem first hit just after 9:00 BST.
Currently traders are open to make deals but the prices they are trading at are uncertain.
No further details of why the exchange went down were given.
Rival platforms such as Chi-X and Turquiose have seen greater interest as they continue to function.
