Miners dominate gains as FTSE 100 finishes up slightly

The FSTE 100 ended Tuesday up slightly with the mining sector dominating the gains.

At the close of play the London index stood at 5,111.84, a rise of 19.51 points, or 0.38 per cent.

Xstrata experienced the biggest gain of the day, rising 4.54 per cent to 1,028.5p.

Antofagasta, Rio Tinto and Fresnillo all also registered significant gains between 4.09 per cent and 3.4 per cent.

A report into the cause of British Airways plane crash failed to dent traders' confidence in the airline, with the BA share price rising 3.17 per cent to 205.3p.

Insurance group Aviva led the drops, slipping 3.15 per cent, with Scottish and Southern Energy also falling 1.89 per cent.ADNFCR-1783-ID-19606288-ADNFCR
