Mining sector helps lift FTSE 100

The mining sector helped lift the FTSE 100 in early trading with the London index up 0.7 per cent during the first hour of Thursday.At 09:22 GMT the leading shares index stood at 5,512.45, a rise of 38.97 points, or 0.71 per cent.
Eurasian Natural Resources Corp witnessed gains of three per cent to 1,012p, with Xstrata also up 2.94 per cent.
The biggest winner in early trading though was Lloyds Banking Group which experienced a 3.14 per cent increase, to 57.76p.
Home Retail Group bucked the overall upward trend of the morning, falling 4.41 per cent, after it announced like-for-like sales across its Argos chain in the 18 months to January 2nd rose by just 0.2 per cent.
Kingfisher also slumped by 1.65 per cent in early trading.
