Next helps FTSE 100 to open in positive fashion on Thursday

The FTSE 100 opened positively on Thursday morning, following a series of profit announcements from the retail sector.At the 09:56 GMT the London index stood at 5,693.16 a rise of 15.28 points, or 0.27 per cent.
Clothing firm Next led the gains, rising 4.59 per cent to 2,165p. The leap followed an announcement that the retailer had witnessed an 18 per cent rise in profits in 2009.
British Airways also continued to perform well despite the fact strike action by cabin crew is expected to start again at the weekend.
Shares in the airline were up 3.63 per cent to 254.4p after the first hour of trading on Thursday.
At the other end of the scale, Vodafone Group suffered the worst slump, slipping 1.61 per cent to 146.5p.
Kingfisher also fell 1.31 per cent, despite announcing a 50 per cent rise in profits.
