Plans for Twitter TV series

Tuesday 26th May 2009

Reports suggest the social messaging website Twitter could be the subject of a new TV series.

Variety magazine claims the planned programme will involve people being "put on the trail of celebrities in a revolutionary competitive format".

The announcement on the potential series was reported on Monday with few details. It is claimed novelist Amy Ephron will be involved, along with Reveille Productions and Brillstein Entertainment.

"We've found a compelling way to bring the immediacy of Twitter to life on TV," executive producer Jon Liebman, from Brillstein said.

Biz Stone, Twitter's cofounder and creative director, however, appeared to reject the reports in an official blog post.

Responding to the question: "Is there an official Twitter show?" he declared: "There is no official Twitter TV show - although if there were it would be fun to cast!"

He added: "In dealing with networks and production companies we sometimes have simple agreements. Regarding the Reveille and Brillstein project reported today, we have a lightweight, non-exclusive, agreement with the producers which helps them move forward more freely."

Mr Stone did later continue though that there were "a lot of interesting development happening in the television space - MTV, G4, CNN, E! and various independent production companies are all leveraging Twitter for fun new projects".

Twitter has become one of the most popular social networking websites thanks in part due to the number of celebrities and high-profile individuals using the site to provide regular updates.ADNFCR-1783-ID-19185432-ADNFCR
