Ryanair has announced it will be opening its 34th base at Leeds Bradford next year. The budget airliner has said it will have two aircraft based at the Yorkshire airport and 14 new routes, along with 63 weekly return flights to or from Leeds Bradford, investing over £84 million in the airport.
The new routes Ryanair will be introducing include Carcassonne, Faro, Ibiza, Knock, Krakow, Limoges, Malaga, Malta, Montpellier, Murcia, Nantes, Palma, Pisa and Venice Treviso.
The company says the new base will increase passengers through the airport by one million a year, and will help "sustain 1,000 well paid local jobs in Yorkshire".
Ryanair's chief executive Michael O'Leary, said: "With a total of 17 low fare routes from Leeds Bradford next summer passengers can beat the recession by choosing Ryanair's guaranteed lowest fares and no fuel surcharges to 17 exciting destinations all over Europe including France, Italy and Spain among others."
The airline said flights were available to the new destinations priced from £10.
John Parkin, Leeds Bradford International Airport chief executive, added: "This is a great vote of confidence in the potential of both the airport and our region from Europe's largest airline. Today's announcement makes us an exception in the sector and will help create much needed jobs."
