Silver miner drags FTSE 100 down on Tuesday

The FTSE 100 closed slightly down on Tuesday after a relatively flat day in London's leading share index.

After dipping upon opening, the FTSE closed down 29.57 points, or 0.56 per cent, to 5,285.77.

Silver miner Fresnillo led the falls at 2.69 per cent, with HSBC Holdings (-2.51 per cent) and Barclays (-2.43 per cent) also among the losses.

It was a good day for utilities however, with Seven Trent and United Utilities Group jumping 2.48 per cent and 2.09 per cent respectively.

Cruise firm Carnival (2.24 per cent) also enjoyed a solid day's trading, as did Legal and General Group (2.59 per cent) and Royal Bank of Scotland Group (2.07 per cent).ADNFCR-1783-ID-19514550-ADNFCR
